About Us

Nish-Chintha, meaning *worry-free” or “no stress,” is a visionary and trailblazing Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) rooted in the Palakkad district of Kerala, India. Formed as a registered society by parents of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities—including Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and Multiple Disabilities—Nish-Chintha stands as a beacon of hope and solidarity. Its core mission is to create a sustainable, lifelong model of assisted community living that offers peace of mind and enduring care, answering the heartfelt question: 'What after us?'

Nish-Chintha is registered under the societies registration Act 1860 with Registration Number PKD/CA/392/2014.

Our Vision

Nishchintha’s Vision is to enable families of children with developmental and intellectual disabilities to lead lives free from worry—by fostering self-managed, long-term care systems, and creating meaningful opportunities for livelihood and lifelong learning.

Our Mission

To provide peace of mind to parents of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by establishing a sustainable, lifelong, and worry-free assisted community living model. We achieve this by integrating family residences (villas and flats), a dedicated care home, and a supportive ecosystem centered around the National Centre for Assisted Living and Skill Development (NACALS), ensuring enduring care, skill development, and purposeful engagement for our children, thereby answering the fundamental question: "What after us?"

Life at Nish-Chintha

Life at Nish-Chintha is a journey toward a worry-free future for our families. It is a vibrant, assisted community where the deep anxieties of "What after us?" are replaced by the comfort of enduring security and lifelong companionship.

This is not just a residential campus; it is a sustainable, integrated village designed by parents, for parents. Families reside in their own villas and flats, enjoying independence while being woven into a supportive social fabric. For our adult children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the environment is one of purposeful engagement and dignity.

The heart of the community is the National Centre for Assisted Living and Skill Development (NACALS), which includes the community kitchen, training facilities, and working areas. Here, residents access structured skill development and vocational training, finding meaning in daily work and contributing to the community. The dedicated care home ensures that enduring, professional support is always available, guaranteeing their safety and well-being even when parents are no longer able to provide direct care.

At Nish-Chintha, every day is built on solidarity, hope, and peace of mind, creating a powerful assurance that our children will always be in safe hands within a loving, familiar home.

NAtional Center for Assisted Living and Skill development - NACALS

NACALS is the heart and soul of Nish-Chinta. Our foremost priority is to empower Nish-chinthites with engaging, enriching and entertaining activities. As a community, our vision is to establish learning and development initiatives including therapies, skill development, general health and well-being etc. Our ultimate goal is to provide these services to the wider community, and create a platform for knowledge sharing so that our successes can be replicated elsewhere.

Resources

In addition to integrated rehabilitation program for our children with special needs and ourselves, we are also working on many projects leading to discovery of knowledge in the space of developmental and intellectual disabilities. Here we showcase the knowledge thus discovered as research reports, Newsletters, Government Circulars & Acts, and links to many articles of interest.
