Onam and its significance at Nishchintha
Onam, Kerala’s harvest festival, is traditionally a time of unity, prosperity, and joy that celebrates the annual visit of the mythical King Mahabali. These themes resonate with Nishchintha’s mission in the following ways:
- Unity and togetherness: The festival’s focus on community and family aligns with Nishchintha’s model of integrated living, where families live together and support each other.
- Equity and inclusion: A social media post from Nishchintha connected the festival to the idea of a just and fair ruler, a theme that mirrors the NGO’s commitment to building a more equitable and inclusive society for its residents.
- Shared joy: The traditional elements of Onam—such as the floral arrangements (pookalams), shared meals (Onam Sadhya), and cultural performances—are a means of celebrating and fostering happiness within the community.

Based on the organization’s focus and Kerala’s cultural traditions Nishchintha Activites were
Pookalam : Participants would come together to create intricate floral designs, promoting creativity and community bonding.



Cultural performances: Traditional arts like Thiruvathirakali (a women’s dance) and Onappattu (Onam songs) would likely be performed by members of the community.





Traditional feast (Onam Sadhya): The community would share the traditional multi-course vegetarian feast, served on banana leaves, as a central part of the celebration.
